Great questions before/during/after the Aug 21st meeting of the DHRMA Consulting PEG [professional emphasis group] in Dallas, TX. We are going to 'Tweet the Meet' and start our Twitter conversations beforehand. Follow us on Twitter at hashtag #twtnow.
Here's some more of what we are going to yack about.
1. I’m on LinkedIn, now what? How should I be using this tool? What’s the value?
2. What about Facebook and Twitter? I know about them but do not know what they offer or how to utilize the features. [Doug – I think this comment opens the door for your content on “analog values”. If you don’t have a plan then it doesn’t matter which tool you use, or don’t use.]
3. Can these sites be used to find my next opportunity? What is the most effective use of these tools to that end?
4. Can these sites be used to find my next client? What is the most effective use of these tools to that end?
5. What’s the difference between LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter? [Doug – your quote on these three sites is appropriate in answering this question and I believe will deliver an OMG moment – it did for me.]
6. What are the downsides to using any of these sites? What tasks are most appropriate for each of the three sites. [Doug – I keep referencing these three sites because they are the ones that have the highest profile with the group. I think it would also be appropriate to discuss “categories” of sites – e.g., résumé sites, blogs, video (like YouTube), etc., and there utility to this group.]
7. How do I direct employers or clients to my presence on these sites?
8. How do I establish a “brand” on any or all of these sites? Is a brand important? If it isn’t what is important and how do I get it?
9. How do I start a blog? Are there websites to host the blog? How do I determine what I should write about or the format of the blog?
10. Should I have my picture on these websites?
11. If I participate on any of these websites how often do I have to update my content or respond or Tweet or whatever?
12. I want to look professional on all these sites but don’t know if Facebook and Twitter will present a professional image of me. How do I ensure that they do? Are there “dos and don’ts” that I should be aware of to maintain a professional presence?
