Getting more face time in cyberspace

There is so much stuff on the Internet it's much like looking and starting to drool over the banana split dessert. It is just too much, too sweet, too fat, and I can't eat the whole thing all at once.

That's been my effort of late. It's best to work on this face time in cyberspace in small bites over a period of time. In previous entries here I offered a few things to check out. Here are my results to date.

Hardware
  • Bought a headset with boom mic to make audio and video podcasts
  • Installed web cam [now I need a desk mic as wearing headphones is too dorkey for video, but great for just audio files and making phone calls.
  • Installed USB splitter to allow multiple connections for web cam, headset, etc. [taking the CPU into Geek Squad shop to have USB ports upgraded to USB 2.0 versions]
Software, etc.
Also I setup a Google group for my volunteer work with Boy Scout Troop 219.

What's not working is youmail to establish personal voice mail replies for various people who call me. Not able to use the on-line setup yet to record customized greetings.

My Mp3 audio uploads to feedburner is not working yet. Need to go back and try again.

To get the Google calendar and groups you will need to setup a G(oogle) email account. It is worthwhile for me as my Microsoft Outlook Express crashed once too often. So making the switch has paid off.

About the same time I also ditched Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and made Mozilla Firefox my browser. I decided against installing "Thunderbird" email client which goes with Firefox as the Gmail served all my needs and more.
