Putting Web 2.0..The Machine is Us/ing Us into cyberspace

Those following this blog have noticed my theme of virtual networking, Web 2.0 and what is happening in cyberspace. To view my most recent learning experience click here: Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire

If that doesn't work, copy/paste this URL: http://www.mediafire.com/?7yngnwrwnjm

What you can download is my recent PowerPoint presentation to the Dallas/Ft Worth Institute of Management Consultants board of directors.

But why should I, Doug? Thanks for asking.

What you get is PP with audio and video and a really cool video by another source. The video is the highlight for me as it explains the web in 5 minutes. Other Internet resources that made this possible are:

What I learned to accomplish all the above.

  • Any video and audio files "inserted" into a PP presentation must stay with the PP to work. If you pass along the PP all you get is the slides with no audio/video.
  • Alternate solution is to upload PP to www.slideshare.net, but that site doesn't like my PP with audio/video inserted.

  • My web 2.0 presentation has narration audio on all slides. Several slides have video inserted and one slide's key feature is playing a *.WMA [video] file. To share all that in cyberspace in multiple files would not have been user-friendly.
  • MediaFire is a free file hosting service. To use it I wanted to consolidate the files to one folder for upload/download. Thanks to Tom at MediaFire, he suggested a software solution.

  • Solution: Archive the PP file with the audio and video files using WinRAR 3.62 [free trial version for 40 days available] into one archive folder uploaded to MediaFire.
  • Now all you have to do is download the archive file from MediaFire into ONE folder. Double-clicking on the download will cause all the files to self-extract. You don't need WinRAR to extract. I set the archive folder to self-extract after download.
  • Open the PP folder and start the slide show and keep clicking. The audio/video will work as long as you keep all the files in the same folder on your computer.
Big lesson's learned for me which I wanted to share with the blogsphere.
