Up next: Custom voice mail to text messages

In earlier posts I have mentioned www.youmail.com to create custom voice mail greetings. So your friends and family can get one style of greetings and something different for your boss. I have been told that youmail is working on creating a text message feature in coming months. You can do that now with www.simulscribe.com and www.spinvox.com, but you would lose the custom voice mail greeting feature if you setup with youmail.

So I am going to wait for the youmail upgrade and get it all; provide custom voice mail greetings which converts the caller's message to text for my Gmail in-box.

Hi Doug. Ken here from YouMail.

We're actually working on putting something together with SimulScribe (or SpinVox) where they can work together. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Ken

What's the difference between SimulScribe and SpinVox? One uses speech recognition and one doesn't. Hmmm...

Thanks for asking "Read the Patent.." According to their respective websites I noted the following differences:
*Simulscribe just launched while spinvox has been in Europe for several years and just started in US
*Spinvox can convert four languages to text MSG while simulscribe can only handle English and later Spanish
*Both charge monthly fees
*spinvox has a means to post your voice recordings to multiple media; blogs, emails, etc.
*Both admit the technology is not perfect and some transcription errors can occur.
*spinvox has a louder brand advocate blogging about it in cyberspace
*simulscribe product launch got a lot of notice such as 2 minute video on www.cnet.com
*Both have option to still listen to your VM in case you can't read your text msg anytime soon or don't want to pay for SMS text msg to your cell phone.

I am still shopping both services. My delay is waiting on youmail.com to partner with one of these services. Right now I have custom voice mail greetings for callers. Eventually I want to have youmail.com custom voice greetings which are sent to me as text message. Doug C.
