Attention: Utah state liquor tax collector

You didn't get my tax money tonight.  As the bartender explained, I was in a private club in the hotel and had to buy a temporary or permanent club membership to buy a drink.

But what about the restaurants across the parking lot that sold me a drink with supper, I asked.  She said that was because they serve food and have a different liquor license.  So the cost of the first drink just went up $5 for a temp membership.  My reply was I was going to vote with my feet and say thank you and left.

How 20th century is that law.  A brief review of websites found similar comments such as from the ParkRecord.com.  Park Record says Utah has a history of bizarre liquor laws. Amen.  With the state of the economy, can Utah afford to lose any tax revenue?  I was willing to pay for booze and service, but not a service fee left over from the 20th century.
