The President and I had a brief chat...40 years ago today.

It was nice of President Johnson to spare a few minutes with me the Saturday in 1969 just before he left office.  I was home on leave after a year plus in South Vietnam when I was fortunate to visit the White House.  Long story, short.  My father had done a favor for some politically connected Democrats with LBJ.  When he was asked what favor he wanted in return, he said none for him, but can you get my son into visit the President.  The rest is history.  Thanks, Dad.

Behind the President is Tom Johnson [no relation], Presidential aide.  Behind the camera is one of the President's daughters, Luci Baines Johnson and her son, Patrick.  I was introduced to Ms. Johnson and the President told his grandson to salute the Marine officer.  I don't recall if the 3-year old complied with my commander-in-chief and his grandfather.
