Do you want to be called a 'blogger'?

  blogger n. Someone with nothing to say writing for people with nothing do ~ Guy Kawasaki in his newest book, Reality Check. If the definition fits, go ahead and wear out your fingers typing.

The Art of Blogging chapter:  Guy offers these headlines that make a blogger more effective:
  • Think "book", not "diary."
  • Answer the little man
  • Collect links for blog rolling
  • Scoop stuff
  • Supplement other bloggers with follow-up entries
  • Acknowledge and respond to commenters
  • Ask for help
  • Be bold
  • Make it easy to join up
He wraps up the chapter with this story;

"Two years ago, my wife saw me typing away on my Macintosh late at night.  She asked me what I was doing, and I answered, "Changing the world, 10,000 readers at a time."  Without missing a beat, she deadpanned back, "Oh, you're blogging."  If you do it properly, she's absolutely right."    Guy Kawasaki

The 10/20/30 Rule of Pitching chapter comes from his 2005 blog which you can read here.  Simply stated presentations should have no more than 10 slides, presented in 20 minutes, and use 30-point font or larger.

The Art of Schmoozing chapter has great insight how to go beyond just 'networking' by quoting Susan RoAne, the queen of schmoozing, "It's not what you know or who you know, but who knows you."  For more from Ms. RoAne's book, How to Work a Room, the First Friday Book Synopsis program has an extract here.

For a video synopsis of the book from the First Book Synopsis program in Dallas, TX you can watch here.
