Greetings,

(Special Note, with great sadness:  Ben Brown, who has attended our event since our earliest days in 1998, passed away just a few days ago.  Our sympathy to his family.  We will miss him).

First, let me say... assuming there is no ice storm or weather-related road insecurity, we are looking forward to having the March First Friday Book Synopsis actually on the First Friday of March.  (Thanks to those who were flexible, and able to attend the February make-up sesssion on the second Friday of the month).

I have been reading a lot about "content marketing."  I'm not sure I've got the "marketing" end of that down, but the First Friday Book Synopsis is all about content.  And for our March 7 event, we've selected two important books -- books filled with valuable, almost need-to-know content.

I will present my synopsis of The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies by Erik Byynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee (W. W. Norton & Company; 2014).  Written by two MIT professors, who are clear communicators, this book will help you understand just what is going on in this time of great shift.  They state that we are in a "second machine age."  I saw the authors interviewed by Fareed Zakaria (he selected their book as his "book of the week"), and the buzz is building.  I think this will be a valuable synopsis.

Karl Krayer will present his synopsis of The Demographic Cliff: How to Survive and Prosper During the Great Deflation of 2014-2019 by Harry Dent (Portfolio Hardcover; 2014).  This book is also "on the radar," with discussions going on around us about its insights into the current, and coming, economic situation.  A book worth pondering!

We hope to see you March 7.  Put the date in your calendar; invite a friend, or two; come learn with us.  I think you will find it to be a valuable use of an early Friday morning.
