{Special Note from Karl Krayer:

Our May 2014 charity sponsorship is RUNNING 4 CLEAN WATER.  Rain or shine, on Saturday, May 31, Creative Communication Network is a Silver-level Sponsor of this event, with all proceeds going directly to build wells to provide children, youth, and adults with safe drinking water.  The region for focus this year is the rural regions of Sierra Leone.  Creative Communication Network will have six runners representing us in the race.  If you would like to be one of these six runners, let us know immediately.  The race begins at O'Banion Middle School, 700 Birchwood Drive, Garland 75043.

The research is clear:  more than 3.4 million people die each year from the lack of clean water, killing children at a rate equivalent of a jumbo jet crashing every four hours.  Did you get that?  9,315 people die every day because they cannot drink clean water?  This has to stop!

My goal is to raise $2,850 on Friday, May 3 at the First Friday Book Synopsis.  Here is how.  Please donate $1 for every glass or bottle of water you drink between now and the First Friday Book Synopsis.  If you drink 8 glasses or bottles each day between Monday and Friday, you will donate $40.  If we have 70 people donating $40 or more, we will reach that goal.  Every contribution is fully tax-deductible.  A card will be available at each place setting for you to donate.  We will also have a display table at registration staffed by event officials, who will also have literature available.}

--------------------

Greetings,

At our April 4 First Friday Book Synopsis, we launched our 17th year of gatherings.  Every month, two book presentations, for 16 full years, and still going strong!  Thanks to all of you who support our event.

For the May 2 First Friday Book Synopsis, we have selected two timely, and very good books.

Michael Lewis has been "everywhere" about his new book Flash Boys.  At first glance, it is simply a book about "high frequency trading."  But, in fact, it is also a book about gaining competitive advantage, ethics, innovation, the shorter-life spans of competitive advantages, problem solving...  It is a provocative book!  I'm looking forward to presenting my synopsis.

TED has become a source of knowledge and inspiration that is so very popular; such a part of the zeitgeist...  The annual TED conference, and now countless "spin-offs" (including TEDxSMU here in Dallas), are part of the national/international conversation.  Karl Krayer will present his synopsis of Talk Like TED, a careful look by superior observer Carmine Gallo at the skills needed to communicate effectively in the TED way.

We hope you will join us on May 2.  Put the date in your calendar; invite a friend, or two; come learn with us.  I think you will find it to be a valuable use of an early Friday morning.
