LANDING: Doug Caldwell has joined VisionCor in Irving, TX

Starting Monday, 10/18/10 through the end of January 2011, I will be a contract trainer with VisionCor along with several others for their client in Irving, TX (Las Colinas area).  The position is preparing for and conducting the training for the client's employees on a new software system.

I got the job by networking with a former co-worker who was approached by VisionCor.  He had a job so he passed this one along to me which after two screening interviews and a face-to-face panel interview with the client resulted in this landing.

What were my learning WOWs & O*M*G* moments of this job search?

  • Accept the deflection in your direction.
  • Be future focused.
  • Niche networking is best for finding the hidden job market.
  • Be properly packaged and promoted in front of people who matter because rarely does the best qualified person get hired.
  • It is a myth to believe you have transferable skills.  Hiring authorities hire those who represent the least risk/cost/controversy.
  • Practice your interview before the real thing.
Before starting work I will make the rounds of Dallas area job networking groups with donut holes and my story.  Bring an appetite.

BTW:  Yes, I will continue my weekly Internet TV show (www.dougcaldwell.net).  Stay tuned for details on location, time, date.
